Policies
Housing for the people who need it most.
Seniors, working families, our next generation. Not luxury units that are out of reach and out of scale.
Accessible Hopkins
District 1 has a large aging population and families with small children. Moni is the only candidate that advocated to repave Hopkins now and utilize the remaining funds to repave other streets.
Quality Streets and Sidewalks
Street repair and city services are not extras. Bring back enforcement of traffic rules that keep us safe.
Protect Small Businesses
Protect small businesses, zoning should support our cherished small businesses, not create blight. Prioritize existing small businesses over corporate development. Promote small businesses to encourage local employment and vibrancy.
Principals Not Politics
City services should be informed by residents and not special interests and billion dollar outside interests. As a expert policymaker, Moni has the skills to design effective solutions to our current challenges and the commitment to cut through rhetoric and focus on substance.
Responsible Budgets
Moni has spent a career creating cost-effective budgets and will do the same for Berkeley.
FLOCK OFF
Safety Without Surveillance. Moni opposes renewing Berkeley’s Flock camera contract. She will create 21st-century legislation that protects residents from mass surveillance, threats to privacy and civil liberties, and access to their data by ICE.
Support Community Events
The end of iconic, homegrown events is a failure of our City governance. Moni will support artists and both new and long-cherished community events that bring joy and celebration.
Green Berkeley
Did you know that West Berkeley has a tree ratio deficit and fewer neighborhood parks than the rest of Berkeley? Moni will advocate for the expansion of public parks and greater tree cover that will provide air quality benefits, flood protection, water conservation, and climate and community benefits to our city.
True Community Representation
In the past few years, our City Council has introduced and nearly unanimously voted on proposals that were in direct opposition to community concerns and interest. If elected, Moni will champion and elevate community voices on the Council, introduce constituent Q&A, hold facilitated town halls and hold weekly office hours. We deserve a City Council that represents us.
Lasting Solutions for Homelessness
Residents of Berkeley commitment to housing and providing services to our unhoused neighbors by passing Measure after Measure dedicated to this. We need a City Council that shows the same kind of commitment, by providing oversight of these services and providing appropriate sites and basic services when housing is not available. A public health crisis and trash build up on our streets and sidewalks and pushing individual members of unhoused next to daycares and residents without essential services is a recipe for disaster for both the unhoused and neighboring residents and businesses. Moni will fight to prevent this avoidable crisis.
